About IB Turkish A SL Tutoring
Our IB Turkish A SL tutoring programme covers the detailed study of Turkish language and literature. We develop literary analysis, text study and written expression skills.
The course examines selected works from Turkish and world literature. Literary analysis techniques are taught for the novel, short story, poetry and drama. Works by authors such as Orhan Pamuk, Yaşar Kemal and Nazım Hikmet are addressed in detail.
We provide detailed preparation for Paper 1 (Guided Textual Analysis), Paper 2 (Comparative Essay) and the Individual Oral (IO). Different strategies are taught for each exam component.
Academic essay writing is a core focus. We teach using literary terminology, supporting with quotations and argumentation techniques.
For IO preparation we provide detailed support on choosing the global issue, extract analysis and presentation practice.
IB assessment experience
Lessons are, wherever possible, planned with teachers who have relevant subject experience and a strong command of the IB assessment criteria. For some subjects we can offer lessons with teachers who have IB Examiner experience; matching is done based on subject, level and teacher availability.

About grade boundaries: According to the grade boundary documents the International Baccalaureate Organization publishes for each exam session, the total percentage needed for a 7 varies by subject, level and session in a band of roughly 55–85%. Your school's IB coordinator can access the relevant May/November Grade descriptors and boundaries document. In our one-to-one lessons we review the student's realistic grade range together using past-session boundaries and mock results.

Allocating the works across components
A work used in the Individual Oral cannot be used again in Paper 2. At SL the list is shorter, which makes that allocation more critical, not less: get it wrong and the work you know best is spent in the wrong place. In the first session we take your school's list and put the split in writing.
Letting the global issue come out of the extract
Picking a striking issue first and forcing the work onto it is what makes an oral fall apart halfway through. We derive the issue from the language of the extract and how it is narrated - and then there is still something to say at minute fifteen.
Two extracts that complete each other
You choose one extract from a work written in Turkish and one from a work in translation. Two extracts approaching the issue from the same angle will not carry the talk; we pick them so there is a real tension between the two.
The questions after the presentation
Once the talk ends, questions come on the extracts and the works. A memorised text stalls exactly here. In rehearsal we ask them and go deliberately to the side you have not prepared.
Rehearsal counted back from the recording date
The oral is completed in one recording and the date belongs to your school. We place the rehearsals by counting back from it. We do not write the presentation for you; IB academic honesty does not allow that.

Understanding a text and analysing it are different jobs
What we see most often at SL is a student who has understood the work well but cannot build an analysis around Paper 1's guiding question. The marks go to what you say about how the text is built, not what it is about. We test every paragraph you write with that question.
An unseen text in every session
You meet the Paper 1 text for the first time in the exam, so reading prepared analyses does not build the skill. In sessions we always use short texts you do not know, and you write the commentary to exam timing.
Paper 2 is practised closed book
You will not have the works in front of you. What decides the grade is not how many quotations you memorised but whether you can build a comparison from short, retrievable ones. We run the practice without the books from the start.
