IB Geography HL tutoring prioritises two things: the global interactions paper that only HL students sit, and the fieldwork report, which goes wrong most often because it is attempted after the data has already been collected. About IB Geography HL Tutoring
Our IB Geography HL tutoring programme examines the core topics of physical and human geography in depth from a global perspective. We develop spatial analysis, data interpretation and essay writing skills.
The course covers Core topics (population distribution and demographic change, global climate - vulnerability and resilience, global resource consumption and security) and Optional themes (freshwater, oceans and coasts, liveable cities, food and health). Case studies and current examples are used for each topic.
HL Extension topics carry particular weight. Globalisation, global governance and power, and risk and resilience are analysed in depth. Our teachers develop skills in interpreting and analysing geographic data.
Detailed support is provided for fieldwork and the Internal Assessment project. We offer guidance aligned to the IB assessment criteria on data collection methods, statistical analysis, map reading and GIS use.
Exam preparation is approached strategically. Different answering techniques are taught for Paper 1 (geographic themes - the optional themes), Paper 2 (the core: global change) and Paper 3 (the HL extension: global interactions). Our students develop map and data analysis alongside essay writing skills.
IB assessment experience
Lessons are, wherever possible, planned with teachers who have relevant subject experience and a strong command of the IB assessment criteria. For some subjects we can offer lessons with teachers who have IB Examiner experience; matching is done based on subject, level and teacher availability.

About grade boundaries: According to the grade boundary documents the International Baccalaureate Organization publishes for each exam session, the total percentage needed for a 7 varies by subject, level and session in a band of roughly 55–85%. Your school's IB coordinator can access the relevant May/November Grade descriptors and boundaries document. In our one-to-one lessons we review the student's realistic grade range together using past-session boundaries and mock results.

Where do one-to-one lessons provide support on the Internal Assessment and written tasks?
The report is planned before the data exists
The most common mistake is collecting the data and then wondering what can be written with it. We draw up the sections of the report, and which measurement belongs in each, before the trip - and then what you need to record in the field follows by itself.
Justifying the statistical test
Running Spearman's rank or a chi-square earns nothing on its own. You have to write the type of your data, the assumptions of the test and what the value actually shows. We choose the test as soon as the collection method is fixed.
Writing the limitations of your own method
The evaluation section opens up when you show where the method fell short, not when you describe a flawless study. We ask you to note during the trip which reading was affected by which condition - it is never remembered afterwards.
Tying the result back to a geographical concept
Describing the trend you found is not enough; you have to say which concept from the course it supports, or where it departs from one. Without that link the report stays a competent set of measurements.
The trip calendar and draft rounds
Your school sets the date and there is one window. We read once at the question-and-method stage and once on the full text. We do not write the report for you; IB academic honesty does not allow that.

How One-to-One Lessons Work
The general structure of IB Geography HL Tutoring sessions
Paper 3 is a synthesis paper, not a topic paper
No question here comes from a particular unit; you are expected to feed an argument about global interactions with examples drawn from anywhere in the course. There is no section to memorise, so preparation means building a pool of examples and practising attaching it to different questions.
Case studies with place, scale and date
An answer beginning 'in one country' or 'in a large city' does not reach the top band. Knowing a few examples with their location, scale and figures earns more than knowing many by name. We shorten the list and fill in what remains.
Plan the report first, write it second
Most of the marks lost on the fieldwork report come from decisions that had to be made before any data existed. So two sessions before the trip go on method and report structure, leaving the sessions afterwards for the writing.
