IB Global Politics HL Tutoring
One-to-one online preparation for the Global Politics Higher Level syllabus
In IB Global Politics HL the HL extension - the case studies and the engagement activity - is what students put off longest, and it shows when the presentation date arrives. We set the calendar at the start, and in 90-minute sessions we practise the move that essay questions reward: tying political theory to a current event instead of describing it.
Quick Answer
The engagement activity sets the calendar in Global Politics HL, and making real contact with your chosen setting takes weeks, so we suggest starting support in the second term of IB 1. For the HL case studies we plan six to eight sessions counting back from the presentation date.

About IB Global Politics HL Tutoring
Our IB Global Politics HL tutoring programme offers detailed teaching that analyses current world politics and international relations in depth. We examine power dynamics, human rights, development and peace through theoretical frameworks and current examples.
The course covers four core units: Power, Sovereignty and International Relations; Human Rights; Development; and Peace and Conflict. For each unit we address the core theories (realism, liberalism, constructivism), key concepts and current case studies.
The HL-specific Engagement Activity and Political Case Studies carry particular weight. Students prepare presentations by researching a chosen political issue in depth. Our teachers provide guidance on research methodology and analytical writing.
Essay writing and analytical thinking are core focuses. Different answering techniques are taught for Paper 1 (stimulus-based questions) and Paper 2 (extended essay). Our students learn to connect current events with theoretical frameworks.
HL Extension topics are covered in detail. Global political challenges (climate change, migration, terrorism, cyber security) and their effects on international institutions are analysed in depth. Our service helps the student build a strong foundation in international relations and political science.
IB assessment experience
Lessons are, wherever possible, planned with teachers who have relevant subject experience and a strong command of the IB assessment criteria. For some subjects we can offer lessons with teachers who have IB Examiner experience; matching is done based on subject, level and teacher availability.

About grade boundaries: According to the grade boundary documents the International Baccalaureate Organization publishes for each exam session, the total percentage needed for a 7 varies by subject, level and session in a band of roughly 55–85%. Your school's IB coordinator can access the relevant May/November Grade descriptors and boundaries document. In our one-to-one lessons we review the student's realistic grade range together using past-session boundaries and mock results.
IA / Written-Task Support
Where do one-to-one lessons provide support on the Internal Assessment and written tasks?
The engagement has to be real
This is not an essay about something you read; you are expected to make actual contact with a political issue - an interview, volunteering, taking part in a local process. We make sure you keep a record of what you did, because the report rests on it.
Connecting the experience to theory
Most students have an interesting experience and turn the report into a narrative. What earns marks is how that experience speaks to the concepts covered in class - power, sovereignty, legitimacy. We plan that link before the engagement begins.
An issue narrow enough
Headings like the climate crisis or migration will not fit the report. We bring the issue down to a specific place and a specific actor; only then can the theory be applied to something concrete.
Sources from different sides
A report fed by a single perspective cannot build an argument. We list sources representing the sides of the issue from the start and decide which will be used in which section.
The calendar and drafts
Presentation and submission dates belong to your school, and this is the component students postpone most. We set the calendar upfront with interim deadlines. We do not write the report for you; IB academic honesty does not allow that.

How One-to-One Lessons Work
The general structure of IB Global Politics HL Tutoring sessions
We build the calendar first
The marks most often lost here come from a postponed engagement and postponed HL case studies. Work assembled as the presentation date approaches cannot stand in for an engagement actually lived. So the first sessions are about counting back from the deadline, not about content.
Theory earns nothing until it lands on a real event
Defining the concept correctly is the smaller part of the answer. The rest is showing how it operates in a particular event. In every essay plan we have you write in advance which concept attaches to which event.
The counter-view belongs inside the answer
A one-sided answer stays mid-band. We work separately on placing how different actors see the same event inside the answer; you may take a side at the end, but the opposing view has to have been seen.
A written progress report every two weeks
We share which concepts were covered, what stage the engagement is at and what comes next, in writing.
