IB Business Management SL Tutoring
One-to-one online preparation for the Business Management Standard Level syllabus
Most marks in IB Business Management SL are lost on the quantitative tools - break-even, ratio analysis, cash-flow forecasts - which come as a shock to students who chose the subject to avoid maths. We work those through in order in 90-minute lessons and build the habit examiners reward: applying theory to the company in front of you.
Quick Answer
Business Management SL support is most often booked for the quantitative topics, and six to eight sessions usually close that gap. The IA's company choice has to be made early, though - a firm whose data you cannot reach will stall you later. Lessons are 90 minutes and online.

About IB Business Management SL Tutoring
Our IB Business Management SL tutoring programme offers detailed teaching that addresses the core concepts of business with practical examples. We provide detailed teaching on business organisation, finance, marketing, human resources and operations management.
The course covers Unit 1 (Introduction to Business Management), Unit 2 (Human Resource Management), Unit 3 (Finance and Accounts), Unit 4 (Marketing) and Unit 5 (Operations Management). We use real-world examples and case studies for each unit.
Financial analysis skills carry particular weight in our programme. We provide detailed teaching on the balance sheet, income statement, profit and loss analysis, the break-even point, cash flow forecasting and ratio analysis.
We provide support for the Internal Assessment (IA) project: working with a real business, choosing a research question, collecting and analysing data, and writing the report, all guided by the IB assessment criteria.
Exam preparation focuses on different strategies for Paper 1 (case study) and Paper 2 (short and long-response questions). Analytical tools such as SWOT, PEST, the Boston Matrix and the Ansoff Matrix are taught in detail.
IB assessment experience
Lessons are, wherever possible, planned with teachers who have relevant subject experience and a strong command of the IB assessment criteria. For some subjects we can offer lessons with teachers who have IB Examiner experience; matching is done based on subject, level and teacher availability.

About grade boundaries: According to the grade boundary documents the International Baccalaureate Organization publishes for each exam session, the total percentage needed for a 7 varies by subject, level and session in a band of roughly 55–85%. Your school's IB coordinator can access the relevant May/November Grade descriptors and boundaries document. In our one-to-one lessons we review the student's realistic grade range together using past-session boundaries and mock results.
IA / Written-Task Support
Where do one-to-one lessons provide support on the Internal Assessment and written tasks?
A quantitative tool has to appear in the report
Most SL students take this subject to avoid numbers and then write the report with qualitative tools only. A recommendation made without a calculation has nothing to stand on. We decide which calculation fits your question before any data is collected.
A real business you can actually reach
The research rests on a real problem at a real business. The difference between a large company you can only follow from outside and a small business that will talk to you decides whether the project can be written. We settle that in the first sessions.
The bias in your sources
Information a company publishes about itself does not carry the same weight as an independent source. Writing who produced a source and why earns marks in its own right. We go through the source list with that in mind.
What the recommendation costs and risks
A report that ends in a recommendation does not reach the top band unless it says what that recommendation would cost the business and what it puts at risk. We fill in both while the recommendation is written.
The school calendar and drafts
Topic approval and deadlines belong to your school. We read once at the question-and-method stage and once on the full text. We do not write the report for you; IB academic honesty does not allow that.

How One-to-One Lessons Work
The general structure of IB Business Management SL Tutoring sessions
The numerical tools come first
Students who chose this subject to stay away from maths usually discover late that a serious share of the grade sits in break-even, ratios and cash flow. So we open the programme with the calculations; the theory topics move quickly afterwards anyway.
We apply the theory to the company in front of you
Defining the concept correctly earns the smaller part of a case question. The rest is writing what that concept means for the company in the text. We practise pulling the answer from the general definition to the company's own situation.
Interpretation under every calculation
Reaching the right number is not enough; you have to write what it tells the business and which decision it supports. We have you write that sentence under every calculation.
A written progress report every two weeks
We share which topics were covered, what stage the research is at and what comes next, in writing.
