In IB Global Politics SL the engagement project students run themselves usually ends up as an interesting experience and nothing more; the marks come from tying that experience back to political theory. We work through it from topic choice to write-up in 90-minute sessions, and practise building the opposing case in essay answers.

About IB Global Politics SL Tutoring
Our IB Global Politics SL programme analyses global politics and international relations. We examine power, human rights, development and peace through theory and current examples.
The syllabus first assessed in May 2026 consists of the core topic 'Understanding power and global politics' plus three thematic studies: Rights and justice; Development and sustainability; Peace and conflict. For each theme we cover the core theories, concepts and current case studies.
The engagement project is the internally assessed component and carries 30% of the SL grade: the student researches a chosen political issue, engages with it actively and turns that into a report. Our teachers guide the process; we do not write the report for the student.
We focus on essay writing and analytical thinking. Different answering techniques are taught for Paper 1 and Paper 2.
Exam preparation focuses on connecting current world events with theoretical frameworks.

Lessons are planned with teachers who have relevant subject experience and a strong command of the IB assessment criteria. Matching is done by subject, level, the student's current standing and teacher availability.

About grade boundaries: According to the grade boundary documents the International Baccalaureate Organization publishes for each exam session, the total percentage needed for a 7 varies by subject, level and session in a band of roughly 55–85%. Your school's IB coordinator can access the relevant May/November Grade descriptors and boundaries document. In our one-to-one lessons we review the student's realistic grade range together using past-session boundaries and mock results.

A narrative of your experience is not a report
Most students do something genuinely interesting and turn the report into the story of it. What earns marks is not the experience itself but how it speaks to the concepts covered in class. We plan that link before the engagement starts.
A topic that survives contact with reality
Plenty of engagement ideas look good on paper and fail in practice: institutions that never reply, people who do not respond, permissions that drag on. We choose candidates at a scale where you can genuinely make contact.
Narrowing the issue
Broad headings will not fit the report. We bring the issue down to a specific place and actor; only then can the theory be applied to something concrete.
Keeping a record
What you did, who you spoke to and what you observed is not remembered afterwards. We ask you to keep short notes while the engagement runs; the report is built on them.
The calendar and drafts
Your school sets the deadlines. We read separately at topic selection and on the full text. We do not write the report for you; the IB's academic integrity rules do not allow that.

How IB Global Politics SL sessions are structured
We make the experience speak to the theory
The problem we see most in engagement reports is a fine experience that never touches the concepts. In the session you first describe what happened, then write beside each observation which concept stands there. The report is built on those pairings.
We bring the counter-view
A one-sided essay stays mid-band. You build your claim and we bring the argument of an actor who sees the same event differently; the defending stays yours. That is how thinking of the counter-view becomes automatic in the exam.
Concepts attach to concrete events
Defining the concept is the smaller part of the answer. The rest is showing how it operates in a particular event. Whenever we draw up a plan, we have you write in advance which concept attaches to which event.
