About IB Turkish A HL Tutoring
Our IB Turkish A HL tutoring programme fully covers the Turkish A Higher Level syllabus, the native language and literature course of the IB Diploma Programme. We develop literary analysis skills across a broad range, from the rich heritage of Turkish literature to world literature. The course examines distinguished works from classical and modern Turkish literature. Examples from authors of the Tanzimat, Servet-i Fünun, National Literature and Republican periods are addressed. Novel analysis (Halit Ziya Uşaklıgil, Reşat Nuri Güntekin, Orhan Pamuk), poetry analysis (Yahya Kemal, Nazım Hikmet, Orhan Veli) and short-story analysis (Sait Faik, Ömer Seyfettin) are carried out. The literary features and social context of each period are examined.
World literature is an important component of the IB Turkish A syllabus. We carry out comparative literature work through works translated into Turkish. By examining works from different cultures and periods, universal themes and literary techniques are analysed. Our teachers help to build connections between Turkish and world literature.
Text-analysis skills form the basis of the IB Turkish A HL syllabus. We systematically teach literary devices (imagery, symbolism, irony, narrative techniques), text-structure analysis, the study of language use and theme/motif analysis. Different analytical approaches are developed for each text type (poetry, novel, short story, drama).
Paper 1 and Paper 2 preparation are critical components. For Paper 1 we teach unseen-text analysis techniques, time management and essay structuring. For Paper 2 we develop comparative essay writing, thesis development and argumentation. Plenty of practice writing is done with teacher feedback.
The Individual Oral (IO) and the HL Essay are important components of the IB Turkish A HL grade. For the IO we work on text selection, identifying the global issue, presentation techniques and Q&A preparation. For the HL Essay we teach choosing a research topic, forming a thesis and academic writing standards. Our experienced IB teachers know the assessment criteria from the inside.

About grade boundaries: According to the grade boundary documents the International Baccalaureate Organization publishes for each exam session, the total percentage needed for a 7 varies by subject, level and session in a band of roughly 55–85%. Your school's IB coordinator can access the relevant May/November Grade descriptors and boundaries document. In our one-to-one lessons we review the student's realistic grade range together using past-session boundaries and mock results.

Allocating the works before anything else
A work used in the Individual Oral cannot be used again in Paper 2 or the HL Essay. If your school's list is not distributed across those three components at the start, the work you know best gets spent in the wrong place. We put that allocation in writing in one of the first sessions.
Letting the global issue come out of the extract
Picking a striking issue first and forcing the work onto it is what makes an oral fall apart halfway through. We derive the issue from the extract itself - from its language and how it is narrated - and then there is still something to say at minute twelve.
Two extracts that complete each other
You choose one extract from a work written in Turkish and one from a work in translation. Two extracts that approach the issue from the same angle will not carry the discussion; we pick them so there is a real tension between the two.
The HL Essay research question
Twelve to fifteen hundred words will not hold a broad question. Too wide, and the essay turns into a summary of the work. We keep the question built on a single technique or a single pattern.
Rehearsal counted back from the recording date
The IO is completed in one recording, and the date belongs to your school. We place the rehearsals by counting back from it, and in the last one the questions come in the recording format too. We do not write the oral for you.

Being a native speaker earns no marks by itself
Students who write fluent Turkish scoring below what they expected is common in this subject. The marks go to what you say about how the text is built, not to what it is about. We test every paragraph you write with one question: did you retell the content, or analyse the writer's choice?
We work from your school's list
Reading lists differ from school to school, so we do not hand out a ready-made set of analyses. In the first session we take your list and decide together how much time each work gets and which component it will serve.
Paper 2 is practised closed book
You will not have the text in front of you in the exam. What decides the grade is not how many quotations you memorised but whether you can build an argument from short, retrievable ones. We run the practice without the books from the start, so nothing about the exam is new.
